In a Senate hearing held by Sens. Rob Portman,R-Ohio and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo, it was revealed that Time Warner Cable (Brighthouse) over billed customers for equipment & programming. The report found that over the first four months of the year Time Warner Cable(Brighthouse) over billed customers $640,000, according to Mike Snider of USA TODAY.
Charter Communication, parent company of Time Warner Communications, over bills customers $442,000 a month. These pay for tv tactics are causing a trend of “cord-cutting”- dropping cable tv for streaming TV which offers equal programming for a fraction of the cost. Some streaming services, like Sling TV, charge $20 a month & bundles a few cable networks AMC, CNN, Disney, ESPN, HGTV, TBS & TNT. Others, like UNLOCK TV offer a one time fee of $149 for a set top box which gives the costumer unlimited access to all programming including PPV. Over a quarter million customers a year are leaving Pay-TV for alternative television.
